Description
This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a warm, cheesy, and savory appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Loaded with tender roast beef, caramelized onions, bell peppers, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone cheeses, this dip is baked until hot and bubbly, making it perfect for parties or game-day gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb roast beef deli meat (sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 medium onion (diced)
- 1 large green bell pepper (chopped)
- 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 8 slices provolone cheese (chopped into ¼ inch pieces, or 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
Garnishes
- Fresh parsley (finely chopped)
- Green onion (sliced)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375℉ and grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Sauté Vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until they begin to caramelize. Then add the chopped green bell pepper and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender, stirring occasionally.
- Mix Cheeses and Creams: While the vegetables cook, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese in a medium bowl. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Add Meat and Vegetables: Add the chopped roast beef, sautéed onions and peppers, salt, and black pepper to the cheese mixture. Stir everything together evenly. Optionally, reserve 1 tablespoon of the meat and vegetable mixture for garnish later.
- Assemble Dip: Spread the prepared dip evenly into the greased baking dish or skillet. If you reserved any meat and vegetables, sprinkle them on top of the dip as a garnish.
- Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 15-18 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the top to brown slightly.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley and sliced green onions over the baked dip. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.
Notes
- Use roast beef deli meat sliced thin for the best texture and flavor that mimics the classic Philly cheesesteak.
- Room temperature cream cheese blends more smoothly with the other ingredients for a better texture.
- Feel free to substitute provolone cheese with Swiss or additional mozzarella if preferred.
- For a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the mixture.
- To reheat leftovers, cover and bake at 350℉ for 10-15 minutes or until warmed through.
