Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 1 pre-made graham cracker crust
Jello Layer
- 1 (3 oz) package orange jello
- 1 cup boiling water
Pudding Layer
- 1 (3.4 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups cold whole milk
- 2 cups Cool Whip, thawed (divided)
Optional
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the crust: If using a homemade graham cracker crust, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the crust until lightly golden brown, about 8-10 minutes. Then, let it cool completely. For a pre-made crust, simply ensure it is ready to use.
- Dissolve the jello: In a mixing bowl, pour 1 cup of boiling water over the orange jello powder. Stir thoroughly until the jello is fully dissolved. Set aside to cool slightly but not set.
- Make the pudding: In a separate bowl, whisk the instant vanilla pudding mix with 2 cups of cold whole milk. Continue whisking for 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth.
- Fold in Cool Whip: Gently fold half of the thawed Cool Whip into the thickened pudding mixture, combining carefully to maintain the airy texture.
- Layer the pie: Pour half of the cooled but still liquid jello layer into the prepared crust. Next, add the pudding and Cool Whip mixture evenly over the jello. Top the pie with the remaining jello layer. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to enhance the jello color before pouring the top layer.
- Chill to set: Place the pie in the refrigerator and chill for at least four hours or preferably overnight. This allows the jello and pudding layers to fully set, creating a firm yet creamy texture.
Notes
- Ensure the jello is cool before layering to prevent it from melting the pudding layer.
- The pie is best served chilled and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- You can substitute light or skim milk and light Cool Whip to reduce calories.
- For a more vibrant color, add a few drops of orange food coloring to the jello mixture.
- If using a homemade graham cracker crust, allow it to cool completely before adding wet layers to avoid sogginess.
