Ingredients
Scale
For the Chicken Filling
- 2 cups Cooked Shredded Chicken
- 8 ounces Cream Cheese
- 1/4 cup Chopped Chives
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Pepper
For the Dough and Topping
- 1 package Crescent Roll Dough
- 1 tablespoon Cooking Spray or Melted Butter
For the Creamy Sauce
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
- 1 cup Heavy Cream
- 1 cup Chicken Broth
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
- 1 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready when your pillows are prepared for baking.
- Mix the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked shredded chicken, cream cheese, chopped chives, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until fully blended to create a flavorful filling.
- Unroll the Crescent Roll Dough: Spread the crescent roll dough out on a lightly greased surface to prevent sticking and prepare for filling.
- Fill the Dough: Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture at the wide end of each triangular dough piece, then carefully roll up towards the narrow end to form pillows.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux, cooking for about 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and chicken broth, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens. Add ground nutmeg and grated Parmesan cheese, whisking until the cheese melts and sauce is smooth.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the rolled chicken pillows on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Brush the tops with melted butter or cooking spray for a golden finish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the pillows are puffed up and golden brown.
- Serve with Sauce: Drizzle the creamy Parmesan sauce over the warmed chicken pillows. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can substitute chives with green onions or parsley for a different herbal note.
- Use low-fat cream cheese and heavy cream to reduce the richness if desired.
- Make sure the chicken is well shredded to evenly distribute in the filling.
- Serve these pillows with a side salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
- Leftover sauce can be stored separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
