Description

This Decadent Air Fryer Chocolate Lava Cakes recipe delivers rich, gooey-centered cakes with a perfectly baked exterior using the convenience of an air fryer. Ready in just 15 minutes, these individual molten chocolate cakes are an indulgent dessert ideal for special occasions or anytime you crave a luscious chocolate treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Lava Cakes Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate bar, broken into pieces
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 3 Tablespoons white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prep Ramekins: Grease 3 six-ounce ramekins thoroughly to prevent sticking, then set them aside for filling later.
  2. Melt Chocolate and Butter: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and semi-sweet chocolate pieces. Microwave for about 1 minute, stirring every 30 seconds until fully melted and smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Prepare Batter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the whole egg, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and sugar together until well blended. Gradually add the flour, melted chocolate mixture, and a pinch of salt. Stir gently until the batter is uniform and smooth.
  4. Fill Ramekins: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared ramekins, filling each about halfway to allow room for rising.
  5. Air Fry: Place the filled ramekins carefully into the air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 370°F and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the edges are set but the centers remain soft and molten.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove ramekins from the air fryer and let them cool for about 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a serving plate to release the lava cake. Serve immediately, optionally garnished with whipped cream, fresh berries, or a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra touch of elegance.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overcook the lava cakes in the air fryer as the center should remain molten and gooey.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate with bittersweet or dark chocolate for a richer flavor.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake these in a conventional oven at 425°F for about 12 minutes.
  • Use room temperature eggs for easier mixing and better batter consistency.
  • Serve immediately for the best molten lava effect; leftovers can be refrigerated but will lose the gooey texture when cooled.
