This Cheeseburger French Fry Casserole is a delicious, comforting dish that combines crispy air-fried French fries with a savory, cheesy ground beef mixture baked to perfection. Topped with melty cheddar cheese and a creamy homemade burger sauce, it’s an easy-to-make meal perfect for family dinners or potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste (plus extra for sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dehydrated onions

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 bag (28 ounces) shoestring French fries
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cheddar cheese soup
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup

Burger Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon pickle juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Cook French Fries: Follow the package directions to air fry the French fries until they are crispy and golden brown. Once cooked, set them aside while you prepare the rest of the casserole.
  2. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and let it reach the temperature before baking the casserole.
  3. Brown Beef and Aromatics: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion, cooking until the beef is fully browned and the onion is softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds to release its flavor. Season the mixture with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Drain excess grease from the skillet.
  4. Add Soups and Combine: Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the cheddar cheese soup and cream of mushroom soup. Mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes smooth and well combined.
  5. Assemble Casserole: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into a 7×11 inch casserole dish, spreading it evenly. Layer the crispy French fries on top of the beef mixture, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the fries.
  6. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 10–15 minutes or until the cheese on top is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  7. Prepare Burger Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, yellow mustard, ketchup, pickle juice, dehydrated onions, and a pinch of black pepper. Stir well until the sauce is creamy and smooth.
  8. Finish and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and drizzle the prepared burger sauce evenly over the top before serving. Enjoy your flavorful and hearty casserole!

Notes

  • Make sure the French fries are crispy before assembling the casserole for the best texture.
  • You can substitute the cheddar cheese soup with homemade cheese sauce if preferred.
  • Use fresh onions and minced garlic for better flavor, but dried versions work in a pinch.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste, especially salt and pepper.
  • This casserole reheats well and is great for leftovers.
