Sauce Ingredients
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/3 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes
Main Ingredients
- 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
- 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup water
Garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the low-sodium soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth. Then add beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Mix well and set aside to let the flavors meld.
- Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the ramen noodles for 2 to 3 minutes until just tender. Drain the noodles and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking. Toss the noodles with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking and set aside.
- Sear the steak: Season the sliced sirloin steak with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak strips and cook until nicely browned on all sides, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the broccoli: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and pour in 1/2 cup of water. Add the broccoli florets and cover the skillet for steaming. Cook until the broccoli is tender-crisp, about 4 to 5 minutes.
- Combine ingredients: Return the seared steak to the skillet with the steamed broccoli. Add the cooked ramen noodles as well.
- Add the sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the steak, broccoli, and noodles. Toss and stir continuously, cooking for 2 to 3 minutes until everything is well coated and heated through, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Serve: Transfer the stir fry to serving bowls or plates and garnish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful beef and broccoli ramen stir fry!
Notes
- Discard the seasoning packets that come with ramen noodles as the homemade sauce provides rich flavor.
- Slicing the steak thinly ensures quick cooking and tender bites.
- Rinsing the noodles after cooking prevents them from becoming mushy or sticky.
- Use fresh broccoli for the best texture; frozen broccoli can be used but may be softer.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos and use gluten-free ramen noodles or rice noodles.
